Ore in Bloom runs an annual gardening competition and maintains several public spaces in and around Ore in Hastings. In need of a logo and branding for the project they requested proposals from local designers. I submitted these visuals for the new identity and my design was chosen.
LOGO PROPOSAL: Starting with a simple, bold hand drawn font – the spaces in the letters were turned into ‘petal’ shapes. Using just these shapes different flowers could be ‘built’ and could be simple or much more fancy! The bright colour palette would be shown off against a dark background. The logo would be bold and eye catching and all of the elements could be used differently depending on the context. A mono version for use in press advertising or when colour is not and option, a round version when required for social media.
LOGO DEVELOPMENT: Although the client liked the initial concept they requested a ‘cleaner’ finish. The hand drawn letters were replaced with a bold and decorated serif face paired with a modern sans serif in white. As the project progressed different colour-ways were introduced for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
